Robert W. Schneider and Michael Lavine do themselves, 54 Below, and Broadway proud with their remarkable historical concert.

Next week, 54 Below will present some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz, and beyond. A recipient of the 2022 Tony Awards® Honor for Excellence in the Theatre, 54 Below celebrates Broadway musicals and writers of the past and present, promoting an ongoing engagement with their work.

Tony Award winner Rupert Holmes (Drood), Heather MacRae (OBC Hair), Michael McElroy (appearing via video, Rent) and Natalie Mosco (OBC Hair) have been added to FIFTY KEY STAGE MUSICALS: IN CONCERT at 54 Below on September 11th, 2022 at 9:30pm.

Singer/actress Karen Mason returned to the Birdland stage with her newest show, 30…and Counting on Monday, August 8, and photographer Kevin Alvey was there to capture the excitement. Check out the photos here!

Routledge Press’ new book FIFTY KEY STAGE MUSICALS by Robert W. Schneider and Shannon Agnew, which rounds-up fifty musicals whose creations were seminal in altering the landscape of musical theater, is now being given a one night only concert with the artists who helped create these monumental musicals at 54 Below, Broadway’s Supper Club.

The American Popular Song Society recently hosted a gala benefit honoring Tony Award nominee Lee Roy Reams and guest photographer Bowie Dunwoody captured it all in their camera's lens.

Two legendary Broadway stars stormed the Birdland stage on Monday night, and photographer Kevin Alvey was there to catch the fun.  The famed music room was thrilled to present leading lady Anita Gillette in concert with iconic song-and-dance man Lee Roy Reams on Monday, June 13. Royal Family Productions will present the inaugural production in a new Young BIPOC Directors series, Romeo and Juliet. This new adaptation of the classic Shakespeare play by Lindsay Price is directed by Lily Ventura.

Following the sold-out success of COVID SUX: The Musical at Cumston Hall, Chris Henry, and Mark Falconer have written a new sequel to their previous original musical comedy about the pandemic featuring parodies of hit Broadway songs from shows like Hamilton, Les Miserables, Tick Tick Boom, West Side Story, Chicago, and Annie.

Due to rehearsal schedule changes, The Public Theater's Free Shakespeare in the Park production of RICHARD III at The Delacorte Theater is delaying its first preview to Tuesday, June 21st. Get the full schedule for the show here.

For one night only Broadway royalty Anita Gillette and Lee Roy Reams will regale Birdland audiences with stories and songs.

The American Popular Song Society will honor Lee Roy Reams in a star-studded benefit concert celebrating the art and legacy of the American popular song, at The Cutting Room, 44 East 32nd Street, on Sunday June 12, at 5pm. 

Artists from the Metropolitan Opera, Broadway and beyond will entertain and uplift audiences with their moving performances. The concert program will feature popular favorites - and some hidden gems! - from opera, musical theater and the great American songbook, along with poignant poetry and a few moving instrumental works to inspire and restore our sense of hope and community.

In celebration of her soon to be released album Ann Kittredge:reIMAGINE(Jazzheads, Inc./King Kozmo Music), a specially curated collection of songs uniquely re-imagined, Ms. Kittredge, will appear at The Laurie Beechman Theatre (407 West 42nd Street – between 9th & 10th Avenues) on Thursday, May 26th at 7pm.

The Public Theater announced complete casting for the Free Shakespeare in the Park production of RICHARD III, kicking off the 60th Anniversary Season at The Delacorte Theater.

Karen Mason returned to Birdland for one night only to share her love of songwriters John Kander and Fred Ebb in this new show.  As one of the original stars of the off-Broadway production of And The World Goes ‘Round, Mason has a personal connection to these legends and their music.
