The Ghosts in Aisle 30

By Matt Henderson

September 8th, 2012

World Premiere Workshop

Kevin is single, jobless, living with his parents, and about to turn 30. When he has a very awkward and embarrassing encounter with a former high school classmate in Wal-Mart, his life plunges down a surreal rabbit hole where the ghosts of his past lurk just behind the toilet paper, the uncomfortable truth of his present is waiting to spring out behind the hand moisturizer, and the answers to whether he will be able to survive his impending adulthood will be discovered through playing the Wal-Mart-sponsored game show somewhere near the shoe racks. Retail therapy is given a whole new meaning in this surreal comedy about the perils of life in the Boomerang Generation and all the social stigma that comes with it.

Poe's Last Night

Written and Performed by David Crawford

Poe's Last Night is the story of Edgar Allan Poe's final hours on the streets of Baltimore, Maryland. Disoriented, feverish, desperate, he fights for life and for insight into his stormy years. Within the play, Poe performs several of his most evocative works, including "Alone," "The Raven," and "The Cask of Amontillado."

Portraying Poe is David Crawford, a veteran actor whose work with Poe grew out of his interaction with horror fans as Dr. James Foster in George Romero's Dawn of the Dead.

The Cultivating Culture Series performs September 8 & 22, October 13 & 27, 2012. All shows at ModernFormations, 4919 Penn Ave., Garfield. Second and Fourth Sat., 8 p.m.; Admission is free for second Sat. Workshops, $10 for fourth Sat Cabarets.; Tickets & Info: 12peerstheater.org.

12 Peers Theater was founded in 2011 and operates in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. We are dedicated to bringing stimulating and thought provoking theater to all Pittsburgh audiences. Taking our name from the Twelve Peers of Charlemagne, our mission is to provide challenging and engaging theater. 12 Peers Theater will highlight social, political, and ethical issues, that exist in both classical and contemporary works. We will accomplish this by exploring myth and cultural identity, as well as by using unique and theatrically realized means; all of which strive to open a dialogue with the audience. Through this dialogue, 12 Peers Theater will focus on strengthening community and educational values.
